THE MEN’S CLUB
“SKINNY”
Gentlemen,
Can you believe it … it is July …. Summer time is in full swing … we’re down the shore … we’re on vacations .. spending time with the kids before they go back to school. It is amazing how busy the summertime can get…. It is no different for the Men’s Club .. we are finishing up all the plans for the new year, we are getting ready to offer you better programming, better Boys’ Nites out… 4 Texas Hold’m games … better speakers, and an improved synergy with the Synagogue.
The Calendar has been set in stone and has gone up and down the mountain. Each month we will have a different topic, a different program, and a different speaker. We are going to put ‘new paint’ on some tried and true programs – watch for our annual December progressive dinner – it will morph into a cocktail party that high society will be green with envy. Our men’s club paid up dinner will move ‘uptown’ – no more rubber chicken … it could wind up being a ‘tailgate party’ for the ages.
We are going to focus on fun and enjoyment – we’ll learn together, laugh together and talk together as we embark on what could be the best year ever. There is only one thing missing – and that is your participation. Our men’s club has prepped and primped for the events – they are all geared to guy time’. Come and see what we have done – we are not your father’s Men’s Club. Don’t be left out .. join now …. 45.00 gets you the best seat in the house. If you’re already a member --- don’t forget to send in your dues- if you’ve never been a member – come out … try us you’ll like us …

And, if that is not enough. We’ll be getting tickets to the 76ers, Big 5 Basketball, more Phillies tickets, Flyers Hockey and maybe the SOUL! We’ll also continue with our Boys’ Nites Out. They may be combined this year with sporting or social events. Keep checking back here. Same Bat Time, Same Bat Channel!

Mission
The Ohev Shalom Men’s Club is
a vehicle for expanding the role of the synagogue in the lives
of men, and the role of men in the life of the Synagogue. Our
mission is to respond to the special needs of men in the
Congregation, while contributing to the spiritual, religious,
and cultural needs of the Congregation. Our themes are “Social,
Sports, Speakers, and Spiritual”. Specifically, the purpose of
the Men’s Club is to:

Explore our “own
spirituality” and make a “safe space” where we may talk about
male issues as Jews.

Give men a place for
enhancing personal Jewish pride.

Create opportunities for
male camaraderie through social and athletic programming.
-
Provide
programs on Jewish ethics in the workplace, programs on men’s
health issues, and programs that teach men to be better
fathers and husbands.
Dues
Ohev Shalom Men’s
Club Membership dues for the year 5769 (2008-2009 are $36.00.
Dues are used for social, religious, cultural, educational, and
sports programming. These funds also go towards B’nai Mitzvah,
Confirmants and other student educational gifts and programs as
well as for the development of other activities and fundraisers,
including Yom Ha’Shoah fund raising and Holocaust educational
programs such as the speaker program we sponsored a few years
ago featuring the curator from the Anne Frank House in
Amsterdam. Educational efforts are also supported like the
program we sponsored for the junior high school and high school
students on the Messianic Jewish movement and how to deal with
it.
