The Kesher Campaign Background

Ohev  Shalom of Bucks County has served the Jewish Community for thirty years.  Our congregation was founded in 1976 to provide a progressive and socially conscious Conservative Synagogue and School.  Thirty years later we are still providing our members with a strong sense of Jewish community.

We are committed to providing a fulfilling Jewish experience for all our members.  From Pre-School through our Hebrew High School, we instill in our children a strong sense of Jewish identity.  We offer youth group activities from 4th through 12th grade.  Our Adult Education Beyt Midrash program nurtures our members’ interest in Jewish study and culture.  Our Outreach program touches many families, enhancing their Jewish connection.  Social opportunities abound for congregants of all ages.  As our community continues to grow we find ourselves in need of a Jewish campus that is better able to serve our needs.

As you may recall, we conducted a Capital Campaign in 2002 to which many of you donated generously…these funds were largely used for much needed renovations and repairs that our building required and initial debt reduction.  In addition, we recently received a very generous donation from one of our congregant families…this money is being dedicated to reducing our long-term debt, making it possible for us to focus on our future.

In support of this growth initiative, the Kesher Campaign is the capstone fund-raising initiative that will fulfill our goals of enhancing the facilities of our Ohev Shalom campus and secure our financial health into the future. This campaign will complete activities that started several years ago, and provide us with a ‘Jewish home’ that is able to meet the growing needs of our congregation without long-term financial burden.

The Kesher Campaign is designed to complete the final stages of the Ohev Shalom campus.  We have $1million available from our prior campaign.  Our goal is to raise, minimally, an additional $1.6 million to complete our vision for the future.  Many of our Ohev Shalom families have already participated in this effort, but we are a community and we will not be successful without everyone’s participation.

In Hebrew, Kesher means connection…from its inception, Ohev Shalom has strived to create an inclusive atmosphere, where individuals can ‘connect’ on a personal basis, depending on their desires, needs and comfort level.  The Kesher Campaign is about Ohev Shalom allowing each of us to find, build and strengthen our own connections:
