Kindergarten at Ohev Shalom

As kindergarten registration approaches, it is time for you to consider the options of a public school education versus Ohev Shalom’s programming.

Ohev Shalom offers a well-regarded, full-day kindergarten class as an alternative to the local public schools. Our state-certified program promotes individualization, academic excellence, socialization opportunities and a strong Jewish identity. Curriculum includes language arts (including phonics, whole language and literacy activities,) math, science, social studies and an introduction to the Hebrew language. A variety of approaches are utilized, from hands-on activities to textbook worksheets.

The kindergarten units integrate secular with Jewish studies. Instruction may include journal and story writing, games, experience charts, graphs, learning centers, arts and crafts and musical activities. The kindergarten classroom also has computers for the children’s use. Your local school district should provide transportation to and from Ohev Shalom for our regular school hours. (9:15a.m. arrival to 3:15p.m dismissal.)

The Kindergarten Enrichment program here at Ohev Shalom is open to children who attend public kindergarten in the mornings. The KE curriculum supplements the secular morning experience with programming in Jewish holidays, bible stories, cooking, art, music and social studies. A three or five-day option can be selected. Naturally, the five-day program will provide a more diverse experience than the three-day program. Transportation from the home school to Ohev Shalom is offered ONLY from Richboro Elementary School. Parents must arrange for all other arrival and dismissal transportation. (12:00 noon arrival; 3:15p.m. dismissal)

All Kindergarten and Kindergarten Enrichment students experience our Friday afternoon Shabbat program. Specialists in Creative Movement, Music and Hebrew are also part of all students’ weekly afternoon schedule. The teachers plan a variety of developmentally appropriate activities to be exciting and enjoyable. We are proud of our kindergarten programs and know that whichever option you decide upon will prove to be valuable educationally, socially and Judaically. Your child will develop and maintain friendships, connect with his traditions and expand his school experience.
