Cook for a Friend
Fall is here and it’s time to take out the pots and pans and
get cooking again, but I need your help. If you have a few
hours once a month please come out to help prepare some
meals for the needy. I would like to again thank my crew of
dedicated friends who have been there to help for several
years: Steven Finer, Mark Barbash, Roy Silverman, Paula
Rosezweig, Rick Goldberg and Nina Surden.
Come out to fulfill your Community Service hours, Bar/Bat
Mitzvah Project or just to do something rewarding. I would
like to thank anyone who has donated any money to Cook For A
Friend, this money allows us to purchase all the food each
month. And last but not least from the Committee of Cook
for a Friend may we wish you a Happy and Healthy New Year.
Ohev Shalom Players
Under the capable direction
of Ohev’s own Michael Schwartz, talented congregants, backed
by a talented production team have performed four Broadway
shows over the last six years. Beginning with “Joseph and
the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat,” the cast and crew have
wowed the community. Subsequent productions were “L’il Abner,”
“Music Man,” and our most recent production of “Fiddler on
the Roof.”

Israel Committee
When Rona and Bob Remstein went to Israel this summer they
met Eitan Deri and 2 of his children. They brought home the
following letter written by Eitan and addressed to the
congregation.
Dear Congregants of Ohev Shalom,
A year passed since I was injured in the difficult
attack in the Schen gate in Jerusalem. In this bomb attack
I lost a friend who was securing me so I could work.
Myself and another man were injured seriously.
During my stay in
the hospital I was offered to become part of the adopt a
family program, so they could strengthen us throughout the
recovery period. I want to thank your congregation for
your motherly support. It was very warm to help me and my
family to go through this difficult and sad time. I feel
that we have a family that supports us and loves us.
Your congregation gives me a sense of being alive and I
have again a desire to live. I hope G-d will bless all of
you with health, happiness and that you will always be
united as one congregation and all your requests
fulfilled. I also wish that G-d will bring all the nation
of Israel to the land of Israel so we can be a strong
nation and set an example. I wish all of you happiness as
you gave me this year, the support that helped me live and
raise my kids despite all the difficulties.. Thanks again
the Deris family that loves you very much.
Eitan Deri has been back
to work. His wife has not been able to find work. He is
unable to work two shifts as he did before his injury.
Financially and emotionally things are very hard in Israel.
My uncle told me today the economy is so bad families don't
have money for food. If we could just help this one family
it is as if we are helping all of Israel, because this is
one family Israel will not have to worry about. Please if
you can help us help them, make a donation to the adopt a
family program. Last year we had clothing and shoe donations
as well as money. Maybe a Bat/bar mitzvah student would like
to help the Deri's for their project. All our money
collected goes directly to the Deri's.
